ACES DEAL FOR DOYLE

Aussie racer Jason Doyle admits stepping back from British speedway “didn’t work” as he makes his comeback with the Belle Vue Aces.

The 2017 Speedway GP world champion has been signed as a short-term replacement for injured Great Britain star Dan Bewley, who is currently sidelined with a broken femur.

Doyle led Ipswich to the 2025 Rowe Motor Oil Premiership title, but opted out of the British leagues for 2026 due to the winter uncertainty over the future of the league, which was later secured following Mayfield's takeover of Ipswich and Northampton's exciting entry into the league.

Despite signing for Krosno in Poland’s Metalkas 2. Ekstraliga, as well as Swedish champions Vastervik and Danish team Esbjerg, Doyle is pleased to make his UK comeback.

Posting on social media, he wrote:

“Well, well, well! I tried something different after 20 years and it didn’t work logistically for me and my team.

“My racing has suffered and with travelling a lot, and most importantly being away from my family longer than needed, I have decided to come back to England and race.

“I have been given the opportunity to come back as a short-term replacement for Dan, so I have taken it with both hands. This is really exciting to get a chance to come back to the UK and race for the Belle Vue Aces, and I’m excited to start on Monday.”

Belle Vue CEO and Australian national team manager Mark Lemon is no stranger to working with Doyle on the world stage. He’s delighted to have brought the Speedway GP star to the National Speedway Stadium, where he forms a powerful top two with world No.2 Brady Kurtz ahead of their home match with Leicester on Monday.

Lemon said:

“I’ve had a long conversation with Dan, who quite naturally wants to come back, and all I’ve said to him is he will know when his body is ready, and at the moment none of us can put a timeframe on that.

“I’d like to welcome Jason to the club, and I’m delighted that we’re able to bring in a replacement of his calibre. His average is actually a little lower than it has been in the past, but that really isn’t important to me because we know what he can do on the British tracks.

“When your team is built top-heavy in the top two as we are, it’s very difficult to continue with guests or rider replacement for any length of time and to have an expectation that the other guys are going to be able to fill Dan’s shoes.

“I’m looking forward to working with Jason again, as I have done at international level, and I’m sure we can get him firing on all cylinders.

“I’m still optimistic for the season with Jason coming in, with Zach Cook really stepping up this year, and Tate (Zischke) and Will (Cairns) are doing well at reserve.

“We know all about Brady (Kurtz) of course, we have PK (Peter Kildemand) coming back from injury and Norick (Blodorn) doing what we know he can, so we still have a fighting chance of reaching the play-offs and challenging for the league title.”
